FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW SHOULD I CARE FOR MY JEWELLERY?

Store your jewellery in a soft lined box or pouch with an anti tarnish strip. Try to keep pieces apart so they don't rub together.

If you need to clean your jewellery and are using professional jewellery cleaning products, always follow the manufacturers instructions. Cleaning gold jewellery is best done with warm water and detergent free soap. Thoroughly dry your silver jewellery after exposure to water.

Do not wear jewellery in bed, in the shower or swimming pools (chlorine can damage the metals). Minimise contact with lotions, perfumes and cosmetics as they can cause damage to the gemstones and metals, also refrain from polishing the gemstones. It is also a good idea to take off your jewellery while performing tasks such as cleaning, gardening or sports activities.

WHAT IS “GOLD FILLED”?

Eve in Eden uses 14K Gold Filled and 14K Rose Gold Filled jewellery.

Gold Filled jewellery is much more valuable than jewellery that is gold plated. Gold Filled has a thick sheet of gold applied to a base metal up to 100,000 times thicker than gold plating. In order for something to be considered Gold Filled, it must have a gold content of at least 1/20th the total weight of the item.

Gold Filled and Rose Gold Filled wire is lead and nickel free.

Please see the definitions below explaining the difference between the types of Gold jewellery:

  • Solid Gold: Pure gold is mixed with alloys to create solid gold with different karat values: 10k having the least amount of gold – 20k having the highest. Gold is very soft, so alloys are added to it give strength.

  • Gold Filled: Solid gold is rolled out into a sheet and then applied to a base metal through heat – applying a thick plate of gold.

  • Electroplated Gold: A thin layer of solid gold added to a base metal through the use of electricity, slightly thicker than gold plate.

  • Gold Plate: A thin layer of solid gold added to jewellery, usually in 12K – can be rubbed off easily.

  • Gold Vermeil: A light gilt of gold on a piece of jewellery, usually done with 14k yellow gold on sterling silver.

I WANT TO PURCHASE AS A GIFT, CAN I SUPPLY A SPECIAL MESSAGE?

Yes! You can specify that your order is a gift at checkout and note any special instructions (including a special message) during checkout. All orders come gift wrapped.

ARE DIFFERENT NECKLACE LENGTHS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE?

When purchasing a necklace, if you would like a different chain length to what is specified, please add a note when ordering and specify the length you'd like. As our jewellery is made to order, we will do our best to accommodate your request.

HOW DO I MEASURE FOR CHAIN LENGTH?

The easiest way to do this is to take the measurement of an existing chain that sits at your desired length. Alternatively you can use string, ribbon or soft tape to measure. Stand in front of a mirror while doing this and it will be much easier to work out your desired length.
